Advent calendar "Berlin Palace"
The architectural center of old Berlin, the capital of Germany, was the "Berliner Stadtschloss" at the end of the boulevard "Unter den Linden". The Berlin Palace, later called Stadtschloss, was built in 1442 and served as the residence of the margraves and princes of Brandenburg. From 1702 it was royal Prussian residence and from 1871 imperial residence. From the time of the Weimar Republic, the Berlin City Palace was used culturally. Museums and institutions moved in and concerts took place. The master-builder Andreas Schlüter built and redeveloped the Berlin City Palace into one of the most important Baroque palaces in the world in the 17th century. The Berlin Palace was partially destroyed during World War II and the GDR government completely demolished it.
Since 2013, a new palace is being built. The baroque faade will be rebuilt true to the original. The Humboldt Forum will be located inside Berlin Palace. Our Advent Calendar shows the historic faade of the Berlin City Palace with its distinctive dome and the magnificent portal. When opening the window, pictures will surprise you, both with Christmassy and typical Berlin motifs. Cautiously, the windows blend into the architecture, preserving the beauty of the image, even when all the windows are opened.
