Advent calendar "Graz"
Graz in Styria is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and worth seeing towns in Europe. The sumptuous contiguous old town blends Gothic, Baroque, Renaissance and Art Nouveau styles, and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, including Eggenberg Castle. The cathedral of Graz fits into the city center. The Austrian town of "Graz an der Mur" has a significant university. The Karl-Franzens-University Graz was founded in 1585 and is thus the second oldest university in Austria. The town of Graz is the recipient of many awards. Graz was the European Capital of Culture in 2003, is the winner of the Europa Prize and has been proclaimed a Human Rights town. Well known far beyond the borders of Styria is the good Styrian pumpkin seed oil, called short kernel oil by the locals. Styrian pumpkin seed oil is a healthy delicacy and should be used in every kitchen.
Our Advent calendar shows the main square with the clock tower on the Schlossberg. The clock tower is the landmark of Graz. The 28 meter high clock tower houses three bells with names such as hour bell, fire bell and "Armesünderglocke", also called "lump bell" by the people of Graz. Many typical specialties of Graz can be found as a picture behind the windows of our Advent calendar. Christmassy things also appear when you open the windows. Cautiously, the windows fit into the architecture and the beauty of the image is preserved, even if all the windows are opened.
