Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a very well preserved medieval town. Forty different towers and gate towers built into the completely preserved city walls bear witness to the resilience of Rothenburg in earlier times. On the 4 km long circular route around the medieval town you will see all of theml, e,g. the castle gate, the gallows gate, the blade gate. The Markusturm with the Röderbogen and the magnificent town houses built in front of it is one of the most popular photo opportunities in Rothenburg.
The Markusturm has already been part of the 1st city fortification and the small clock tower on the Markusturm dates from the 12th century. The completely preserved city wall around the historic Old Town of Rothenburg is covered on almost 2 km.
