The view from the left bank of the Main over the "Old Main Bridge" to the historic old town of Würzburg is truly imposing. If you cross the river the 1300-year-old city of Würzburg opens up with all its historic monuments and sights such as St. Kilian's Cathedral, the Civic Hospital of the Holy Spirit, the Falkenhaus, the Alte Kranen, the Julius Maximilian University and the Würzburg Residence.The Würzburg Residence was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981 together with the Hofgarten. The fortress Marienberg towers over the left bank of the Main and next to it is the "Käppele". The Käppele is probably the most famous Baroque pilgrimage church in Bavaria, built by Baltasar Neumann. Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was a citizen of the city of Würzburg and his original laboratory can still be admired here today.
