The most famous and most striking is probably the fortress Marienberg with the baroque pilgrimage church "Käppele" next to it.
However, the Würzburg Residence, the Old Main Bridge, St. Kilian's Cathedral, Falkenhaus, Alter Kranen, the Civic Hospital of the Holy Spirit and the old University of Julius-Maximilian are no less important. The "Käppele" and the Würzburg Residence were designed by Baltasar Neumann. In 1981, UNESCO included the Würzburg Residence with the Hofgarten in the list of world cultural heritage. A famous city citizen was Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen.
