Wernigerode, probably the most famous city in the Harz, lies below the "Brocken", which at 1141 meters is even part of the urban area. The historic town hall Wernigerode is known far beyond Germany's borders. Wernigerode with its historic town hall is a wedding mecca. The picturesque half-timbered facade and the beautiful historic ambience of the Town Hall in Wernigerode annually attracts hundreds of couples. In the middle of the 16th century, the Wernigerode town hall was rebuilt from a playhouse to a town hall. Since then it has undergone many modifications, additions and embellishments.
