Advent calendar - Heinrich Zill
Heinrich Zille's humor inspired us to make an Advent calendar from his painting "Zum Nussbaum". The popular artist Heinrich Zille was born in Radeburg in Saxony and lived in Berlin after his youth. There he perceived the life of Berlin's lower class with sensitive observation and drew and wrote their "Milljöh" with much wit and humor.
Coming from a poor background himself, "Pinselheinrich", as he was called, was able to empathize well with the way of life of the citizens of Berlin and drew his "Berliner Milljöh" affectionately and socially critical. Out of the windows of our Advent calendar come another 24 drawings by Heinrich Zille, which impressively and wittily depict the "Berlin Milljöh". So smile with Heinrich Zille throughout the Christmas season.
